The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, had an unforgettable outing in the 2023 edition of the IPL. They won what can only be labelled as one of the most dramatic finals in the history of the Indian Premier League.
This came after they had one of the most forgettable seasons in the 2022 edition. This makes one ponder the reason behind CSK’s consistency despite some not-so-good seasons. Former CSK player and now bowling coach Dwayne Bravo provided the answer.
Bravo opens up about Franchise’s expectations with players
In a recent interview, Bravo stated that the team administration doesn’t put any kind of pressure for winning on its players. Rather, it allows them to exhibit and play their own game. This, according to the former all-rounder, is the beauty of this franchise.
“There is no outside interference or pressure from owners,” Bravo said, as quoted by Mid Day. “It’s good. We have a good squad. We want to continue from where we left off last season. We did some really great things with a very young bowling attack.”
In the 2024 season, the team will have a better and more balanced squad compared to the previous one. The reason behind it is the return of Shardul Thakur to the side and Deepak Chahar from injury. Both these players have worked together previously for the side, and their combination in bowling was lethal. While Chahar dented the upper order of the opposition, Thakur is a master of generating wickets and stopping runs in the middle overs.
This bowling duo, when paired up with Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka, can form a formidable bowling lineup for Chennai Super Kings. With all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, and recently added Rachin Ravindra, CSK will be looking to dominate the tournament immediately.
Chennai will start their title defense against RCB on March 22. The match will be played at their home ground, where they have a great record over the years. It will be exciting to see how things go down for them in the latest season of the Indian Premier League.
