Chennai Super Kings has released a full disclosure statement following the appointment of Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new captain of Chennai Super Kings.
The world stood awestruck when Gaikwad, CSK’s young gun, was seen at the captain’s meeting and photo session ahead of the commencement of the IPL 2024.
Later, IPL and CSK’s official handle confirmed on social media that Ruturaj Gaikwad would become the fourth captain in CSK’s history.
The team’s official statement read, “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches… The team looks forward to the upcoming season.”
Gaikwad first represented CSK in 2020. He made a mark for himself in the first season by smashing three consecutive fifties and has since become an irreplaceable member of the team. He has had a memorable run of form with the team in the last two years.
However, this comes as a surprise considering that the team has some senior players among the ranks, in the form of Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder was made captain of the side in the 2022 edition of the tournament, and the team didn’t perform well under his captaincy. This led to the reinstatement of MS Dhoni as the captain, who clinched the trophy in the 2023 edition.
It will be interesting to see how Ruturaj Gaikwad progresses as captain. Recently, he has had success with the Indian team, which managed to clinch a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in China. Gaikwad will also look forward to replicating the result in the 2024 season of IPL.
