During the IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Harshit Rana, the promising 22-year-old pacer, has found himself in hot water for breaching the IPL’s code of conduct.
Offences and Sanctions
Rana, who was pivotal in KKR’s thrilling four-run victory, was penalised for two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offences and accepted the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee. Consequently, Rana has been fined 60 percent of his match fee.
Rana displayed fiery aggression during the match, providing animated send-offs to two SRH batters. His passionate performance saw him finish with impressive bowling figures of 3/33 from his quota of four overs.
KKR’s victory was fueled by a scintillating unbeaten half-century from Andre Russell, who blazed his way to 64 runs from just 25 deliveries. Additionally, opener Phil Salt’s solid fifty contributed to KKR’s imposing total of 208/7.
In response, SRH’s openers rapidly started, reaching 58/0 before Rana struck, dismissing Mayank Agarwal with a well-directed bouncer. Rana’s celebration included a stare and a flying kiss, inciting a reaction from Agarwal.
Later in the innings, Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive fifty threatened KKR’s dominance, but Rana’s heroics in the final over ensured victory for his team. With two crucial wickets and a dot ball in the last over, Rana sealed the win for KKR despite Klaasen’s valiant effort to keep SRH in the game.
As KKR progresses in the tournament, Rana’s disciplinary breach serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and adhering to the rules and regulations of the game.
