England’s pace bowler, James Anderson, who is set to play his last test, continues to showcase his class in the county cricket. Ahead of his final game against West Indies next week, Anderson put on a great show in the domestic match and cliched seven wickets in an inning.
Anderson played for Lancashire against Nottinghamshire at the Trafalgar Road Ground and produced a brilliant spell. Following up with his team’s batting effort of 353/9 declared, the English pacer caused carnage in the first inning with the ball in hand.
He struck first blood in the seventh over of the inning by removing his compatriot in the English team, Haseeb Hameed. This was also his first wicket of the county season. However, it didn’t take him long enough to clinch the second, as he removed Will Young next.
In no time, Anderson clinched his fifth wicket in the form of Lyndon James, who was caught at gully. He completed his record 55th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket with this wicket. It was perhaps one of the fastest fifers, as it just took him 46 deliveries to deliver the blows.
At one point, Nottinghamshire were 40/6, and all wickets belonged to the legendary pacer. For instance, it seemed as if he would clinch all 10 wickets. But that hope was dashed out when Tom Bailey removed the seventh and eighth wicket. Anderson then came back to remove his seventh and the opposition’s final wicket in the form of Dillion Pennington.
Anderson ended the inning with the figures of 16-3-35-7. Nottinghamshire were bowled out for a score of 126, trailing by a margin of 227 runs. With the bowlers still fresh, Lancashire decided to enforce the follow-on.
Nottinghamshire had a good start to their second inning. That was until the departure of their opener, Ben Slater. At the end of the day, Nottinghamshire is 63/1 with Hameed and Yong at the crease.
Anderson will play his final test match next week. He has played 187 games for England, in which he has clinched 700 wickets, and he will be eyeing a phenomenal outing in his final game.
