Less than a week after its World Cup triumph, the Indian team is all set to play again. Only this time, they won’t be represented by its World Cup winners; they will be fielding a squad full of youngsters against Zimbabwe’s challenge.
Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy and NCA chief VVS Laxman’s coaching, the Indian team will play a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
The series is set to start on June 6th, and the squad has departed from Mumbai for the same. This squad features a number of youngsters who impressed the selectors during IPL 2024.

One of these youngsters is Riyan Parag. He has been in the news for several years now and has finally received his maiden international call-up. Talking about the same, Parag said, “The feel of donning an Indian jersey, travelling with the side is different. Coming from Assam, I had this dream of playing for India. Really happy. There will be a special connection for Zimbabwe when I play my first match.”
Tushar Deshpande, Abhishek Sharma, and Harshit Rana will also be making their debuts on the international stage.
Players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube were also named for this tour. However, due to a storm, they find themselves still stranded in Barbados. As a result, Sai Sudarshan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana were named as their replacement. They will be partaking in the first two games of the series.
This young brigade will be taking their first step in cementing their place in the team. Following the retirement of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, some big shoes are to be filled in the smallest format of the game.
Hence, every selector will monitor the squad closely to identify the key players for the future.
