In a recent interview, Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicketkeeper batter, made some shocking revelations as he is all set to return to competitive cricket.
The 26-year-old will soon be seen in the Delhi Capitals’ famous blue jersey. He will return to the field in the upcoming season of IPL 2024, but his journey has not been smooth sailing in recent times.
Pant opens up about conversation with doctors
Talking about his recent battles with the injuries after his traumatic accident, Pant said, “When my accident happened, I felt something spiritual saved me… With the kind of accident I had, only I got my knee injured, but I can’t even imagine how worse it could have been.”
He further went on to convey how the doctors, at one point, were considering amputation as an option. “Doctors even spoke to me about amputation,” Pant told the Times of India.
Rishabh Pant created his Mercedes SUV in December 2022. It was a horrible accident in which he suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Later, he was airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment. Following his medical recovery, he was forced into an intensive rehabilitation programme at the NCA, where he underwent treatment for the damaged ligaments in his knee, hurt wrist, and ankle.
The player has been trying his best to return to the squad for some time now. He missed the 2023 IPL edition and revealed that his goal was to return to the team in the same year before the World Cup. However, his knee couldn’t take the load, which pushed his return to the England series, which India won 4-1.
Pant was also unable to make it to that series. But on Tuesday, the BCCI granted him clearance to play in the upcoming IPL, where he will captain the Delhi Capitals side.
