Sunrisers Hyderabad created history on Wednesday, as they smashed the highest inning total in the history of the IPL. The Pat Cummins-led team scored 277 runs in their first inning against Mumbai Indians to break the record and register their name in the history books.
It all started with Mumbai winning the toss and opting to bowl first. SRH were asked to bat first on their home ground, and they took the invite with both hands.
Head, Sharma set the tone for SRH
First, Travis Head dominated the proceedings in the powerplay, taking his team to its highest powerplay total with 81 runs on the board. He smashed 62 runs from just 24 balls to set the tone for his team. Head smashed 9 fours and 3 sixes in his inning.
Having lost Mayank Agarwal cheaply for 11, he was accompanied by Abhishek Sharma, who also played a fluent inning of 63 from just 23 balls. Sharma was in blazing form and scored in every part of the ground with his 7 sixes and 3 fours.
It was because of these two fantabulous innings that SRH was able to post 148 runs on the board halfway through the inning. However, the Sunrisers weren’t done yet. They had more firepower in the form of Klaasen waiting to be unleashed.
After Sharma’s dismissal, Klaasen took centre stage, smashing 80* off 34 balls to take his team to a fabulous total of 277 runs in their 20 overs. The Protean batter caused absolute carnage with his inning, which saw 7 sixes and 4 fours scored.
The Mumbai Indians team started really well. They were matching the run rate shoulder to shoulder, toe to toe. However, with every wicket they lost, they kept getting away from the total. And despite many individual brilliances in the form of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Verma, Mumbai fell short of the target, albeit not by much.
Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their first win of the IPL 2024 by defeating MI by 31 runs at home.
