Chennai Super Kings continue their stellar performance in the IPL 2024, maintaining an unbeaten streak after two impressive victories. In their latest match against Gujarat Titans, several standout performances caught the attention of fans and experts alike, with 20-year-old Sameer Rizvi’s explosive batting being one of the highlights.
Rizvi’s fearless approach was evident from the outset as he smashed two towering sixes off Rashid Khan’s bowling, widely regarded as one of the best T20 bowlers of all time. His audacious stroke play left CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, in awe.
“Well, he’s got a lot of natural ability and natural hitting ability; we’ve seen it at practice, you know, especially against the spinners. I mean, he can hit a long way, and he can hit the ball very cleanly,” Hussey commented, praising Rizvi’s exceptional talent.
Hussey expressed astonishment at Rizvi’s courage to attack Rashid Khan right from the first ball of his IPL debut. “But it’s still a big ask for a young player to come in for his first IPL game against arguably the best T20 bowler of all time, Rashid Khan, and hit the first ball that you face for six. I mean, that’s just crazy, isn’t it? So we’re very excited for him,” he added.
Learning and Growth: Rachin Ravindra’s Impact
Apart from Rizvi’s heroics, Hussey also acknowledged the impressive performance of New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra. Opening the innings for CSK, Ravindra displayed his attacking prowess, scoring a brisk 46 runs off just 20 deliveries against GT.
“He’s just trying to soak up as much knowledge as he possibly can. I think he really feeds off the crowd a bit as well. And yeah, once you’ve got a couple of good shots away earlier, I think his confidence grew and he believed that ‘I can perform on this stage and grow from there,” Hussey praised Ravindra’s learning attitude and adaptability.
Hussey highlighted Ravindra’s positive mindset and emphasised his ability to thrive in pressure situations. “I think he’s just gone out there with a clear mind and a nice positive attitude and got off to a good start. There’s not a lot to work on with these level of world-class players,” he concluded, acknowledging Ravindra’s potential to excel further in the tournament.
