Following his marvellous outing against Chennai Super Kings, Khaleel Ahmed has opened up about his brief stint with the Indian Cricket team.
The left-arm pacer was in sensational form in the third game for his franchise. He produced great numbers, including an opening spell of 3 overs that conceded only nine runs and clinched the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.
This bold display, with great control and accuracy, saw Delhi Capitals get a firm hold on the match in the early stages of the game. Chennai couldn’t break off the pressure and eventually succumbed to it.
Despite a good run of form in the IPL, his last game for the national side came way back in 2019. It has been nearly five years since the player represented India, and a lot has changed since then as well.
Khaleel Ahmed sheds light on his brief international stint
Talking about the changed bowler he has become over the years, Khaleel said, “I was only 20-21 back then… I was coming out of my adolescence and still understanding cricket… at this moment, I am at my best because I am able to read the game. I didn’t have the experience earlier. I know how to get the batter out and understand their mindset now.”
In the post-match interview, Khaleed also discussed the demands of a fast bowler’s body. He now has a better understanding of what his body wants, for he has suffered certain injuries that have shaped and changed him in a certain manner.
Delhi Capitals will certainly be happy with the turn of events in the game against Chennai. However, they will be more determined to keep this momentum going heading into the tournament. Batting has been their strength in this IPL, but bowling has let them down. With Khaleel and Sharma leading the attack, they hope to turn the season in their favour.
