Ravindra Jadeja is a different beast whenever he plays at Chepauk. And his performance against KKR in the recently concluded IPL game was no different.
He clinched three wickets in the fifth game of the 2024 season, bringing CSK back into winning ways. His spell changed the tide of the game and applied brakes to the Knight Riders’ flamboyant-looking top order.
Ravindra Jadeja completes 100 catches in IPL
Jadeja was in the action throughout the game. In fact, he started off with a brilliant catch of Phil Salt. The English batter was dismissed on the first ball of the match itself.
Later, with the ball in hand, he delivered a double wicket. Dismissing both dangerous-looking batters Raghuvanshi and Narine, he returned his team to the game. In the very next over, he ended Venkatesh Iyer’s miseries to register 3 for himself on the night.
Towards the end of the first innings, Jadeja clinched the catch of the opposite skipper. With this dismissal of Shreyas Iyer, he completed 100 catches in the IPL and became the only fifth player after Kohli, Raina, Pollard, and Rohit Sharma to do so.
Jadeja ended the game with 3 wickets and 18 runs in his 4 overs. This, along with the 2 crucial catches, was enough for him to be adjudged the player of the match.
Following his exceptional performance, for which he won the Player of the Match award, Jadeja was nicknamed the “Cricket Thalapathy” of CSK.
With this, Jadeja joins the CSK tradition of being dubbed with a title. Before him, MS Dhoni was dubbed Thala, which means leader. Later, Suresh Raina was named Chinna Thala, meaning the leader’s right hand.
Talking about the title, Jadeja said, “my title hasn’t been verified, hopefully they’ll give me one.” He further went on to explain how much he loves bowling at Chepauk. He knows the ball grips this surface, making it a little hard for the visiting team to get going.
Chennai Super Kings have now won 3 out of 5 games and are currently third on the IPL 2024 points table.
