Despite scoring the most runs for RCB in the IPL 2024, Virat Kohli has been surrounded by critics. He has scored 319 runs in this season from just six games. But people cannot see past the fact that his strike rate has been below 150 all the time.
Several people have concluded that the player should not be allowed on the team for the ICC T20 World Cup, which is due to take place later this year.
Kohli’s teammate Glenn Maxwell of Australia shares the same sentiment. Although in a lighter tone, he stated that India shouldn’t pick the 35-year-old batter. However, he doesn’t believe the player has a slow strike rate to fail to make the cut. Instead, he feels that Kohli’s absence will improve Australia’s chances instead.
Glenn Maxwell on Kohli the “most clutch player”
“Virat Kohli is the most clutch player I have sever played against. The innings he played against us in Mohali during the 2016 World Cup are still the best innings I have ever seen played against me. His awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is just phenomenal,” Maxwell said, before adding, “I hope India doesn’t pick him because it will be great to not come up against him,” reports ESPN.
The Australian batter also acknowledged that there might be some pressure on the Indian stalwart to make the cut. The reason behind this thinking is the plethora of talent present in the Indian system. In his own words, “It’s not surprising because there are 1.5 billion people in this country, and half of them are unbelievable cricketers. It’s a hard team to get into… they are phenomenal players, and there should be heat on every player.”
RCB is currently sinking at the bottom of the table with one win from five games. Their only win came against Punjab Kings at home in their second game. Since then, they have either failed to post competitive totals or, on rare occasions when they have, defending them has been almost impossible for their bowlers.
With Virat Kohli performing in peak form, the team’s fans and supporters will hope for a turnaround.
