IPL 2024 might have been a nightmare for bowlers, but some bowlers have enjoyed glory this season as well, and Yuzvendra Chahal is one of them.
The Rajasthan Royals bowler has been among the highest wickets this season. And in his team’s last game against Mumbai Indians, the player scripted history in IPL.
With the dismissal of Mohammad Nabi, Chahal became the first player in the tournament’s history to reach the 200 wickets milestone. This is the first instance that a bowler has crossed this mark in the 17 years of this tournament.
Yuzvendra Chahal clinches 200th wicket in IPL
First bowler in the history of IPL to take 200 wickets! 🙌
Chahal might not have been among the Indian team’s favourite wrist spinners, but that didn’t stop him from celebrating his 200th wicket in the IPL. It was a massive moment for the bowler, and he showed it by celebrating it to the fullest.
Ironically, Chahal clinched his 200th wicket against Mumbai Indians, the same team for which he made his IPL debut in 2013.
Later, in 2014, he was picked up by RCB, and the move changed his fortunes. Chahal represented the Bengaluru-based team in 113 matches in the next eight seasons and clinched 139 wickets.
He passed Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in IPL history last season. This season, he has bettered his record by achieving new heights.
Coming to the game, there was no contest between Mumbai and Rajasthan. Despite a shaky start, MI posted 179 in their 20 overs. The home team, in return, chased down the target with relative ease.
They were guided by a champion knock of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who slammed his first century of the 2024 edition of IPL. His 104 runs inning helped RR win the game with 8 balls to spare.
