Pakistan cricket has suffered a setback as star wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has been ruled out of the final two T20Is against New Zealand due to an injury sustained during the third match of the series. Rizwan suffered the injury while batting and was forced to retire hurt, missing the remainder of the game.
Mohammad Rizwan’s Injury and PCB Statement
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement confirming Rizwan’s injury and the decision to rule him out of the last two T20Is. After reviewing the radiology reports of Rizwan and Mohammad Irfan Khan, the PCB Medical Panel decided to rest the two players and focus on their rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

“PCB Medical Panel yesterday received Radiology reports of Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Irfan Khan. After reviewing the reports and in consultation with the Pakistan team management, it has been decided to rest the two players from Thursday’s and Saturday’s T20Is against New Zealand,” the PCB stated.
Rizwan’s absence will likely impact Pakistan’s performance, given his key role as a wicketkeeper-batter. His experience and skills in handling pressure situations could have been invaluable in the series’ final two games.
The ongoing T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand is currently level at 1-1. The first match of the series was washed out, while Pakistan secured a dominant victory in the second match, winning by seven wickets. However, the Black Caps fought back with a brilliant performance in the third T20I, securing a win with the help of Mark Chapman’s exceptional knock.
The final two T20Is will be played in Lahore on April 25 and 27. Both teams will be determined to win the series, making these matches crucial for each side.
As Pakistan prepares for the last two T20Is against New Zealand, the team will need to adjust its strategy in Rizwan’s absence. With the series evenly poised, both teams will aim to put forth their best performances in the final two matches to clinch the series.
