MS Dhoni is having a season to remember in the IPL 2024. He is turning to the pitch to the roar of the crowd and sparring with bowlers for fun. And dispatching them to all parts of the ground.
However, in a surprising turn of events during the CSK vs PBKS match, a rare moment unfolded when MS Dhoni found himself under the scrutiny of fans and pundits.
Dhoni arrived at the crease in the 18th over of the game. And despite facing 4 balls against a spinner in the 19th over, he could only muster to score 2 runs. Hence, when a pace bowler came to attack, his eyes seemed to have lit up.
Since Chennai struggled at 149 at the start of the over, Dhoni took it upon himself to take them past a respective total. He started the over well with a flush boundary through the extra-cover region.
Only two balls later, one of the game’s most dramatic moments unfolded in front of everyone. Dhoni played a shot towards deep cover and refused to run, even when it was Daryl Mitchell was at the other end. It was bamboozling for fans and pundits, considering that Mitchell completed 2 runs while Dhoni refused to budge.
CSK paid 14 crores to Daryl Mitchell for THALA to send him back, completing almost 2 runs for nothing😂

The Indian stalwart was adamant about fishing things in style. Two balls later, he deposited a great shot into the stands for a six. But that didn’t justify his refusal for the run, considering Mitchell is a great batter, coming off a fifty himself from the previous game.
He was later criticised by the likes of Irfan Pathan for his antics. “I am against this type of thing. If he had been a bowler, I would have understood it for sure. You have done that with”Jadeja and with Mitchell as well. This is a team game, he said.
Adding to the disappointment, Dhoni was dismissed on the final ball while attempting a risky double. This decision, coupled with his earlier refusal to run, resulted in the Chennai Super Kings posting a modest total of 162 runs.
Punjab, coming off a great run chase against KKR in their previous match, had no trouble chasing the target. Bairstow and Russow were the pick of the Punjab batters, who ensured there were no spills in the chase.
With this victory, PBKS has kept itself in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.
