Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming expressed concern about the injury sustained by experienced pacer Deepak Chahar during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday, May 1, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Deepak Chahar’s Injury Incident
Chahar opened the bowling for CSK in the second innings after setting a target of 163 for the visitors. However, just two balls into his spell, he pulled up in his delivery stride and subsequently walked off the field. Shardul Thakur completed the remaining four deliveries of Chahar’s over, and Chahar did not return to the field.
Stephen Fleming told: “Things are not looking good for Deepak Chahar in his injury regards”
After the match, Stephen Fleming provided a concerning update on Chahar’s injury, revealing that the initial feeling was not positive. He added that the team is waiting for a more comprehensive assessment from the physiotherapy team and doctors. Additionally, Tushar Deshpande was absent from the playing XI due to flu.
“Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. Initial feeling wasn’t great. So, we are waiting for a more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look,” Fleming stated during the post-match press conference.
Punjab Kings restricted CSK to 162/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a disciplined bowling effort. Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar were standout performers, each taking two wickets and conceding minimal runs.
Chasing 163, PBKS’s Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw put together a 64-run partnership for the second wicket. After Bairstow’s dismissal, Rossouw and Shashank Singh provided crucial runs to secure the win with seven wickets and 13 balls remaining.
With this victory, PBKS notched up their fourth win in 10 games, positioning them in seventh place on the points table. CSK remained in fourth place with five wins and five losses in 10 games.
Despite the injury setback, CSK will hope for a speedy recovery for Chahar and a return to winning ways in the tournament. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings will look to build on this victory as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
