Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the SRH paceman, delivered the spell of the season against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. The player Indian paceman defended 12 runs in an over to get his team a narrow one-run victory.

This victory will provide a huge morale boost for the Sunrisers outfit, which is constantly fighting for a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Coming to the final over of the game, Bhuvneshwar revealed how clueless he was about what he would do when defending 12 off 6 balls. In a post-match video, he said: “Honestly, jab 19th over chal raha tha, mai nervous tha. Jab ball haath mai aayi, tab bhi thoughtless tha (U was nervous during the 19th over and clueless when the ball was thrown in my direction).”

However, things eventually worked out in his favour. Kuman bowled stupendously in the final over. In the game’s final ball, he had to defend 2 runs. Bhuvneshwar ended up bowling a full toss as the last delivery, and to his surprise, the batter, Rovman Powell, missed and ended up stuck in front, which the Umpire deemed as out LBW.

With this tremendous final over-display, they completed the comeback in the game, which looked all but lost at one point.

Winning the toss, they had opted to bat first, but again, their top order failed to display its fierce hitting prowess. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed early with just 12 of his 10 deliveries. Travis Head saw through the early few overs and smashed a fifty. Later, Nitish Reddy and Klaasen applied the finishing touches to take SRH’s final score of over 200.

Rajasthan, too, didn’t have the best of starts. They lost 2 wickets in the very first over, courtesy of some excellent bowling by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the new ball. They made a comeback, with Jaiswal and Parag scoring crucial fifties.

Despite that, Kumar had the final laugh as he took his team over the finishing line. Regarding his final over, Kumar said, “Intention was not to take a wicket as they needed two runs, one to tie the match… aim was to tie the game, so that it goes to super over, which will give us a chance.” He also added that cricket is often a game of luck, where good balls go to boundaries, and bad balls fetch wickets.

As things stand, SRH is currently in fourth place in the points table with 12 points to their name. They are battling out with Lucknow, Chennai, and Delhi for a spot in the Playoffs.
