The release of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 has sparked extensive discussions and debates among cricket fans and experts. Left-arm pacer T Natarajan was among the notable exclusions, a decision that has left many fans perplexed, particularly given his impressive performances in the IPL 2024 season.
Impressive IPL Performances
Natarajan’s role as a left-arm pacer for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL 2024 season has been instrumental. With 15 wickets in eight innings, his skill and potential are undeniable. His consistent performances, especially his ability to deliver pinpoint yorkers during the death overs, have made him an invaluable asset to the SRH bowling attack.
Former New Zealand all-rounder and current SRH bowling coach James Franklin, ahead of SRH’s crucial fixture against the Mumbai Indians, commented on Natarajan’s non-selection for the T20 World Cup. Franklin acknowledged the fierce competition for selection in the Indian cricketing pool, highlighting the abundance of talent and the tough decisions that need to be made for the national squad.
“There are just so many quality players in India. He can only control what he can. His great strength is obviously his yorker bowling. That is where he is a huge asset for us as a team,” Franklin told Hindustan Times.
Franklin emphasised that Natarajan should focus on the aspects of his game that he can control, particularly his yorker bowling, which has been a major strength for SRH. By excelling in this area, Natarajan can continue to be a significant asset to his team.
“If he keeps going the way he is going and can hold his form throughout the rest of this IPL, those sorts of conversations around India, they tend to take care of themselves. If he keeps performing, then getting back in that Indian side won’t be too far away from it,” Franklin added.
While Natarajan’s non-selection for the T20 World Cup may disappoint his fans, his consistent performances in the IPL could pave the way for a future return to the Indian squad. By continuing to excel in his role and demonstrate his skill, Natarajan may find himself back in contention for a spot on the national team.
