After a prolonged absence due to injury, England’s star pacer Jofra Archer has finally emerged, igniting a wave of anticipation and excitement as he gears up for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Recently, he was seen playing for Sussex’s 2nd XI in the County Championship. On May 17, Archer bowled a fiery spell of 6 overs against Kent. His pacy deliveries gave the Kent batters some serious trouble.
Archer’s return to the field, marked by a powerful delivery that struck Kansh Singh’s helmet before securing a wicket, is set to inject a significant dose of morale into the England side.
The same ideas resonated in a recent interview with Jos Buttler, the English skipper with the Independent. Regarding Archer’s return, Buttler said: “It’s a huge encouragement for him to be back and see him ready to play. Everyone knows what he is capable of and the attitude he possesses. As a captain, you can always turn to him in a game because he always has a trick up his sleeve.”
However, the skipper will not expect too much from the bowler. He further talked about how managing their expectations from the bowler is essential, given that he has been out of action for a long time.
There is no doubt in Buttler’s mind that the bowler is a superstar. But he is still far from his physical and mental best. Hence, seeing how the player performs in the international match action will be interesting.
England are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup. They won the tournament in 2022 when it took place in Australia. In that tournament, they defeated India in the semis and later trounced Pakistan to clinch the title for a second time.
Although they had a mediocre tournament in the ODI World Cup in 2023, they will be looking to bounce back and defend their title later this year.
