BCCI unveiled the 2024-25 domestic cricket season schedule on June 6, introducing innovative changes aimed at enhancing the quality of competition while prioritizing player welfare. Notably, the traditional toss has been eliminated from the CK Nayudu Trophy matches, with the visiting team now empowered to choose whether to bat or bowl first. This groundbreaking move seeks to inject a new dimension of strategy into the game while promoting fairness.

The season will kick off with red-ball cricket, commencing with the prestigious Duleep Trophy featuring four teams selected by the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. Following this, the Irani Cup and the Ranji Trophy will take centre stage, with the first five league matches scheduled to unfold. The white-ball tournaments will follow suit, starting with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Ranji Trophy will then resume with the final two league matches before transitioning into the knockout stages.

To safeguard player well-being, the BCCI has incorporated an extended gap between matches to allow ample time for recovery and sustained peak performance. Additionally, efforts have been made to address weather-related disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on fixtures.

Other Notable Changes in Domestic Schedule for Season 2024-25 by BCCI

The CK Nayudu Trophy introduces a revamped points system to foster balanced performances. This includes awarding points for batting and bowling prowess in the first innings, securing the first-innings lead, or achieving an outright victory. A thorough post-season review will evaluate the efficacy of this new points system, with potential implementation in the Ranji Trophy for subsequent seasons.
