Chennai Super Kings have had a mixed bag of a tournament so far. They started with a flier, winning two games on the trot. But they currently have a two-game losing streak against the same opposition, LSG.
With just four wins in eight games, their chances of making the qualifiers look thin. This change in results has brought Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy into the spotlight.
Heading into the reverse fixture against LSG, Chennai Super Kings were unbeaten at home. They had won all 3 of their home game and seemed sure to win the fourth one as well.
That was until Stoinis walked into bat in the second inning. Chasing a massive total of 211, Lucknow was in all sorts of trouble. But Stoinis’ century saved the day for the visitors.
Ambati Rayudu misquoted after CSK loss; issues clarification
Following this first defeat at home, several cricketing pundits criticized Gaikwad’s decisions in the game. One of them was Ambati Rayudu, or so MenXP reported.
In a quote floating around the internet, Rayudu was quoted saying, “Poor Field placements in death overs by Ruturaj. We clearly saw a lack of experience as captain,” the media website reported Rayudu said on Star Sports.
However, the former CSK and Mumbai player has squashed the claims on the quote. Taking it to X (formerly known as Twitter), Rayudu wrote, “I was not even commentating on the said day… I was at my farm picking mangoes.. please be responsible when writing something.. don’t spread nonsense.”
The website also quoted Navjot Singh Sidhu, who discussed how MS Dhoni should be blamed for the loss. According to the website, Sidhu said, “If you credit Dhoni for CSK wins, then blame him for the loss too. Dhoni is still the main think tank.” The commentator turned cricketer has yet to refute the claims in the quote.
Following this defeat, Chennai Super Kings have slipped out of the top four. They will need to regroup before facing the Sunrisers challenge at home.
