Pakistan men’s team assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has announced his intention to pursue legal action against those spreading false allegations and narratives targeting him and his family. This development comes after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 during the group stage. Mahmood expressed frustration and disappointment over the baseless claims circulating on social media and other platforms.
“I have heard some false allegations and narratives circulating on social media and other media platforms. I categorically state that these allegations are entirely baseless and false, and it is extremely upsetting to hear them,” Mahmood wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Mahmood urged the public to refrain from engaging with such false narratives and emphasized the importance of addressing this issue legally. He highlighted the danger and irresponsibility of spreading unverified information, calling it a criminal offence.
“This culture of falsely accusing and misleading people to believe a false narrative is now getting ridiculous and dangerous. Speaking without evidence and misconstruing facts is a criminal offense, and those engaging in such behavior will be dealt with through legal action,” he wrote.
Mahmood condemned the pursuit of media attention by spreading falsehoods and stated that he would be seeking legal advice against those responsible for making false allegations. He called for an end to this harmful behaviour in media culture and urged people to avoid engaging with these narratives.
“Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable. I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media. I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or entertaining these harmful narratives as it is essential to put an end to such behaviour in our media culture,” he concluded.
In related news, sources informed Geo News that Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, will also likely take legal action against YouTubers and former cricketers who accused him of misconduct during the T20 World Cup campaign. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal department is reportedly collecting evidence related to these statements.
According to sources, a social media campaign was used to “target” Babar during Pakistan’s campaign, causing him to feel “disheartened.” The PCB is taking these allegations seriously and is in the process of addressing them through legal channels.
