After a lot of speculation and development, Gautam Gambhir has accepted BCCI’s offer as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team but this comes with even more complexities. It has been confirmed that after taking KKR to the victory of IPL 2024, Gambhir has laid down a few demands which the BCCI has agreed to accept.
One of the most prominent demands laid by Gambhir was that he would only accept the job if he got to decide the support staff on his own.
With the demands being accepted the former India opening batter Gautam Gambhir is set to become the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, with an official announcement from the BCCI expected soon. Gambhir, who has been linked with the role for months, will replace current coach Rahul Dravid after the ongoing T20 World Cup.

A BCCI source confirmed the developments, stating, “We have held talks with Gambhir about becoming the head coach of the Indian team. He will replace Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup.” Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title as a mentor, has been praised for his leadership and coaching skills.
Currently, Paras Mhambrey and T Dilip serve as the bowling and fielding coaches, respectively. Gambhir is expected to make changes to the support staff and possibly the team composition. He has expressed his desire to coach the national team, calling it “the biggest honour.”
“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well,” the 42-year-old had said.
Gambhir is widely known for his aggressive outlook and approach towards the game. Many have appreciated his out-of-the-box way of taking on the game. Some have also mentioned that his way of keeping the game above the player puts him a class apart. His appointment is seen as a significant move for Indian cricket.
