Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shared some insight into his plans with regard to international cricket. While several people and reports speculate about his departure from the game, Sharma clarified his intentions to play across all formats for a few more years.
The reports hit the air following Rohit Sharma’s snub as Mumbai Indians captain. However, Sharma quickly quashed them when he clarified, saying, “The journey has been wonderful, it has been 17 years; I still hope to play a few more years as well and make an impact in world cricket.” He further added, “Captaining your country is the biggest honour that you can have, and for me, I have never thought that this would arrive where I’ll be captaining one day.”
Later this year, the cricketing world will witness India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup, led by the seasoned Rohit Sharma. This tournament presents a crucial opportunity for the team to break their international trophy drought, with Sharma’s leadership playing a pivotal role.
Rohit’s quest for International trophy as captain continues
Sharma, who is 37 years old now, will be hoping to end his side’s trophy drought. He has been phenomenal as a captain in the short format. Under his captaincy, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup in 2023. Sadly, they couldn’t cross the line against Australia.
But in a different format, they will be hoping for a different result. Rohit Sharma already has a T20 World Cup under his belt as a player. Now, he will also hope to win it as a captain.
The Indian skipper has clarified his mantra for success. As a captain, he believes his biggest motive is to drive everyone in one direction. “That’s how the team sport should be played; it’s not about personal milestones and personal stats and goals,” Sharma believes. For him, it is about what everyone on the team can contribute to winning the trophy.
