One of the most debatable ICC tournaments, the 2025 Champions Trophy’s tentative dates are finally out. According to Cricbuzz’s reports, the tournament is likely to take place between February 19 and March 9.
The tournament is all set to return after an 8-year hiatus. The last time it was played was in 2017 in England, and Pakistan emerged victorious. They beat India in the final.
However, there are still doubts about India’s participation in the tournament, which is said to take place in Pakistan.
The reports further suggest that teams have been intimated regarding the dates. However, the Indian government remains reluctant about their team travelling to their neighbouring nation.
There are further suggestions that this reluctance might cost Pakistan and the tournament can eventually turned into a hybrid model. Something similar was on display in the Asia Cup that took place in 2023.
Pakistan was the main host of the tournament. Still, the Indian team’s matches were played completely in Sri Lanka—so much so that the India vs. Pakistan game was played in Sri Lanka, and India got the best of the opponents.
This time, the host nation has shown some courtesy and asked India to visit. Pakistan even offered to play all the Indian team’s games at Lahore so that the team won’t have to travel much.
There has yet to be a final decision on India’s participation in the tournament. If this happens and the Indian team travels to Pakistan, it will be their first venture into the neighbouring country for cricketing action in over a decade.
India vs. Pakistan is one of the biggest rivalries and perhaps the biggest game in the history of the cricketing calendar. No other matchup in the entire sport garners more attention and viewership than this one encounter.
It will be interesting to see what decision the Indian government finally makes and whether we will get to witness India’s role in Pakistan.
