SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) is poised to undergo a leadership change for the third consecutive season in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The franchise is set to appoint Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, as their new captain, replacing Aiden Markram, who led the side in the 2023 season.

Sources reveal that SRH invested a significant amount, Rs 20.50 crore, in securing the services of Pat Cummins, taking into consideration his leadership attributes. Cummins, who led Australia to victory in the World Test Championship Final against India and the ODI World Cup Final in 2023, is expected to bring valuable captaincy experience to SRH.

Aiden Markram, the South African batting all-rounder, is stepping down from the captaincy role after a challenging 2023 season with SRH. The team struggled, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins from 14 games. Despite this, Markram has enjoyed success in the SA20 league, guiding Sunrisers Eastern Cape to consecutive titles.

SunRisers Hyderabad was active in the IPL auction ahead of the 2024 season, making strategic buys to bolster their squad. In addition to Pat Cummins, the team acquired players like Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga. Cummins, with his staggering price tag of Rs 20.50 crore, marked a significant investment for SRH, while Hasaranga was considered a steal at just Rs 1.50 crore.
