Glenn Maxwell scored the century in just 50 balls, surpassing the previous record for the fastest century in a T20I on Australian soil, held by South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw. 

The 35-year-old Australian cricketer’s remarkable innings set a new record. They elevated him to an elite group, tying with India’s legendary batsman Rohit Sharma for the most T20I centuries, with both players having five centuries to their names.

Maxwell’s innings were pivotal in reviving Australia from a shaky start at 3-64 in the seventh over. This remarkable counterattack showcased Maxwell’s batting prowess and ability to turn the game around. The innings included an impressive 12 boundaries and 8 sixes, contributing to Australia’s commanding position in the match.

The achievement highlights Maxwell’s brilliance and adds to Australia’s depth in T20 cricket, making him a key player in their lineup. This isn’t the first time Maxwell has turned things around for Australia. 

Australia secured an 11-run victory against West Indies in the opening match held in Hobart last Friday. The teams are set to face each other once again in the third game of the three-match series scheduled for Tuesday in Perth. The Australian team, which dominated the ODI series by defeating West Indies 3-0, is now engaged in a series of six T20 matches over the next three weeks in preparation for the T20I World Cup.
