As batting teams consistently score over 200 and even 250 in recent matches, questions about the competitiveness of the games have arisen. Ravichandran Ashwin voiced his sympathy for the bowlers on social media, suggesting that the growing dominance of batters is diminishing the balance of the sport. “Save the bowlers, someone please,” Ashwin posted, followed by SOS emojis. He further expressed concerns about teams achieving scores comfortably at high run rates.

One factor contributing to the surge in scoring could be the introduction of the Impact Player rule, which allows teams to substitute a player during or after the innings. Critics argue that this rule tilts the game further in favour of batters, reducing the value of all-rounders and enhancing batting depth. Even though the rule was intended to increase excitement, many feel it has detracted from the competition by favouring one aspect of the game over the other.
