Royal Challengers Bengaluru might not have the best outings in IPL 2024. But their opener and former skipper Virat Kohli certainly is, and he has added another accolade to his long list to show for it.
Virat Kohli smashed another fifty in the away encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad and RCB. With this inning, his total for the season crossed the 400-run mark, bringing another milestone in his career.
Virat Kohli breaks Raina and Warner’s record
Now, Virat Kohli is the only player in the IPL history to have scored 400+ runs in 10 different seasons of the tournament. Suresh Raina and David Warner previously held the record. Both batters did so in 9 seasons of the IPL.
Virat Kohli have 400+ runs in 10 IPL seasons since 2011. 🤯
Along with the current edition, Kohli has replicated this feat in the 2023, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2013, and 2011 seasons.
Not just that, the Indian stalwart also holds the record for most runs in an edition. In 2016, he smashed 4 centuries in a single season and scored 973 runs to become the highest run scorer. This record remains intact to date.
Kohli’s inning of 51 against SRH was crucial in the context of the game. He was off the blocks quickly and helped his team register 61 runs in the first 6 overs. Later, with other batters taking centre stage, he played the anchor role in ensuring his team reached an excellent total of 206.
RCB went on to register their second win of the season. Their bowlers finally got their act together to take down the ruthless batting of SRH.
Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, and Green were the best bowlers in terms of being economical. They created pressure with the ball in hand, allowing other bowlers to reap rewards like wickets.
Despite the win, RCB remains at the bottom of the table with just 4 points from 9 games.
